About Michelle
Michelle O’Brien is a piano and voice instructor focused on inspiring musicians by sharing her
love for music and teaching them the fundamentals.
Her love of music was recognized at a young age and began enrollment in choir as well as formal piano lessons. Some of her early instructors include Piano Performer Elizabeth Loparitis. Dr. Loparitis played a vital part in her technical development as a young musician and appreciation for the arts.
Michelle enjoys playing offertory solos as well as collaborating with choirs and vocal soloists. While attending Sachem High School, Michelle accompanied her concert choir for both fall and spring concerts and was in the same year chosen to participate in a piano masterclass with pianist Oleg Poliansky. She has gone on to accompany the Smithtown Gospel Tabernacle choir and St. Andrew’s Lutheran choir.
While attending Stony Brook University, Michelle began pursuing her Bachelor’s in Music. During this time, she started to teach voice and piano lessons to students of all ages both privately and at various music schools. While working at these schools, she has helped many of her piano and voice students achieve high scores at the New York State Music Association festivals.
At SBU, Michelle studied under Piano Performer Madeline Hildebrand. Under her tutelage, Michelle was able to refine her musical craft and audition for the Lamont School of Music where she was accepted on a performance-based scholarship. She studied under, Piano Performer, Dr. Stephanie Cheng and helped start the MTNA Collegiate Chapter where she served as vice president. In June of 2022, Michelle graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree from the Lamont School of Music with Latin honors.
Michelle is passionate about sharing her love of music with her students. In her lessons, she enjoys incorporating different elements of music theory and technique in a way that best tailors to the student. Her goal is to inspire musicians through music education and make learning music viable for anyone willing to learn.
